As Nortel falls, AudioCodes rises

For me today begins with a bit of nostalgia. As I drove into work, I learned that Nortel announced this morning that it was filing for bankruptcy protection. This is not completely unexpected, However, just a few weeks ago, the discussion was about how they could survive until 2011. In 2011, Nortel has another major debt payment due and they would need to position the company over the next 18-24 months to pay that. Therefore, it was a bit of surprise to hear they were unable to make a $110-120 million payment this month. I first know of Nortel as Northern Telecom. They had a small presence just a couple of miles from my home in Richardson, Texas. I was then working for an IXC called USTel and assigned to assist Nortel in developing our unique call processing software for the first release of the DMS 250. It was an exciting time. I made many trips to Bramelea and Ottawa. We were very excited when the first switch was completed and installed at our downtown Dallas location. I watched Northern Telecom grow into Nortel from an initial few hundred employees in Texas to many thousands. I wished I had owned the stock when it hit $900 a share. However, today I have to hope that they can emerge from bankruptcy as a healthy contributor to the future of industry.

I wish them well.

AudioCodes

AudioCodes and Broadvox announced this week the completion of interoperability between the Mediant 1000 and the BroadvoxGO! SIP Trunking products. We expect great things from this activity as it assist medium to large businesses in moving to IP communications/SIP Trunking using their legacy equipment. The AudioCodes Mediant 1000 is a media gateway that converts the Broadvox SIP Trunking services to a wide range of traditional TDM telephone line interfaces including T1/E1, CAS, PRI-ISDN, BRI-ISDN, analog FXS and FXO. VARs can now sell the Mediant 1000 to a business that wants to take advantage of the cost and features of SIP Trunking but may want to delay acquiring an IP PBX. Managing cash flow and measuring ROI becomes much easier if there is no need to install and train new employees on new equipment.  Learn more about this market positioning and potential by attending the "SIP Trunking as You Are" webinar today.

SIP Trunking as you are is a very important consideration for companies wanting to take advantage of SIP Trunking quickly and cost effectively.
