3G's Future: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics

Two research studies on 3G wireless came out today. The more interesting of the two is the one with the least claim to objectivity.

The study with the least bias isn't so interesting because it kind of states the obvious:

TelecomView Study Finds 3G Will Fuel Future Mobile Growth

TelecomView's study says that 3G will have 300 million subscribers and $200 billion in revenue in 2009.

The story that's more fun but obviously more biased is:

Survey by Netonomy: Mobile Muddle Threatening Take-up of 3G

Netonomy is in the business of customer self-service solutions, so it's only natural that they would find that customers will need a lot of help with wireless services once they start using 3G.

Actually, I think the user experience of most technology is so difficult that it seems to me this study also has discovered the obvious ....
