Fujitsu Supplies VOIP to BT

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. -- Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, announces the supply of an Integrated Voice over IP Platform for the BT Broadband Voice Service, which was launched to the public on 9th December 2003.

The platform, based around the widely acclaimed MetaSwitch VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch, allows end-users to connect via an Integrated Access Device, or Telephony Adapter, to provide an extensive range of UK PSTN services over a broadband connection. BT has become one of the first major European operators to offer emulated PSTN services using Voice over IP technology. Fujitsu has also developed an Operational Support System, which allows the linkage between the components of the platform, the support systems within BT and the bt.com website - where customers are able to register, manage profiles and credit their account.

Andy Stevenson, Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe's General Manager, commented: "This is an exciting development for us and our partners at MetaSwitch. It enables broadband as the evolution platform where new services can be added in a speedy way to tackle new markets. We are delighted to have been chosen by BT to provide the technology for Broadband Voice and will continue to work with them to consolidate the platform and develop a future strategy for voice migration".
