(China Post Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Taiwan's largest textile show -- Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS 2006) -- will open tomorrow at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC).

The three-day textile show, now in its tenth year, will be a major gathering of Asia's upper-and-middle-stream textile manufacturers. It is also a unique opportunity for international buyers who wish to seek high value-added textile products.

According to the show organizer -- Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), the theme of this year's show will follow last year's concept of F4 -- or "from fibers, for fashion plus functions" -- showcasing the functional and fashionable features of the high value-added middle and upstream yarn and fabric production in Taiwan that reflects the innovation and originality of Taiwan's textile industry.

Products displayed at the show will feature innovative and fashionable function fibers, yarns, fabrics, apparel and textile accessories, becoming the main attractions to world textile buyers.

A TTF spokesman said the arrangement for the show is to distinguish itself from similar shows held in other Asian countries.

A total of 265 local and overseas exhibitors will attend the annual textile event held in Taiwan, with major local exhibitors including Formosa Chemicals and Fiber Corp., Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, Far Eastern Textile Ltd., Tai Yuen Textile, Formosa Taffeta, Eclat Textile, Everest Textile, New Wide Enterprise, Super Textile Group and BEBE Cotton Knitting, etc.

Overseas exhibitors coming from 11 different countries including the U.S., the U.K., German, Italy, Spain, Japan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and China will display their latest designs and technologies at the show.

So far, some 92 VIPs from 18 nations such as ARITZIA, Speedo, Caramelo, Mexx, Lotto, L-Fashion Group and Baumlerare are in the lists of invitation, together with over 900 visitors from the world have registered to attend the show.

Visitors include brand retailers, importers, apparel manufacturers buyers, and major textile-related organizations, such as Clothing Manufacturers' Association of India (CMAI), Hong Kong Clothing Industry Training Authority (CITA), Polish Federation of Apparel & Textiles, Japan Textile Importers Association and Indonesian Textile Association (API).

Various activities in TITAS 2006 will demonstrate the functional and fashionable features of the Taiwan textiles. Among these activities, there are five fashion shows to present the up-to-date textile products; 14 seminars disclose the latest news in design, R&D, market trend, brand marketing, etc.; 13 sourcing events and individual business meetings, as with buyers from Jockey International (U.S.), American Pacific Enterprise (Hong Kong), Caramelo (Spain), J&W (Poland)...etc,. which will offer potential business opportunities for attendees.

The textile industry which created many jobs and foreign exchange over the years, is one of the main industries in Taiwan. Last year, the values of Taiwan textiles exports and imports were US$11.8 billion and US$2.9 billion respectively, with a trade surplus over US$9.2 billion.

Facing the abolishment of textiles quotas in 2005, there are opportunities and risks for local textile industries. As textile industry is one of the nation's key industries, Taiwan government will best cater to the needs of the industry with high efficiency, high quality and beneficial conditions.

TITAS 2006 has gathered resources from industry, government, academia and research institutions to fully expand its international marketing power, plus active assistance from Taiwan foreign trade offices around the world, TITAS will be able to pave a bright future for Taiwan's textile industry.
