Ingredients
· 2 cups all-purpose flour
· 2 tsps sugar
· 4 tsp baking powder
· ¼ baking soda
· ½ tsp salt
· ¼ tsp cream of tartar
· ½ cup butter-flavored shortening
· ¾ cups buttermilk
· 2 tbls melted butter
Directions
Preheat oven to 450o.
Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cream of tartar, and shortening in a bowl. Cut shortening using either a fork or pastry blender into dry mixture until blended completely and crumbly. Stir in buttermilk. Dust a mixing kneading surface with flour. Knead dough gently for 1 minute. Roll out dough to 1/2" - 3/4" thick; using a cookie cutter, cut out 2 inch circles and place on to an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Immediately brush hot biscuits with melted butter.
