Beware of Cable

December 6, 2012

On the one hand, you have the Top MSO's - Comcast, TWC, Cox, Charter, Cablevision and Bright House - taking market share rapidly, primarily due to its better broadband bargain and its willingness to build out fiber.

On the other hand, cable sells a commodity item at low prices. Obviously, not just cable prices are low, T1's are under $300 in major areas; EoC is inexpensive; and Internet bandwidth in major hubs is under $1 per MB! It is taking more and more sales to make a living.

Who Do You Want to Be?

November 29, 2012

Yesterday I presented the Secrets of Running Your Agency as a TCA webinar. A major part of the session was the mindset of the agency owner and the agent. For small businesses (employee size wise), the business owner or agent determines the fate of the business. Sometimes, we forget that it is a business.

An Agent's take on Level3

November 6, 2012

"Telecom is no stranger to change." Moreso today than ever, huh? Yesterday, Chris Palermo of GCN, a telecom brokerage firm, was on a panel with Level3 discussing the Global Crossing-Level3 integration at Microcorp's One-on-One event.

Palermo gave some advice to agents that they can't be complacent, that they need to Adapt to survive.

Palermo constantly asks "Where is the next thing going?"

Money, Market, Launch - News

October 12, 2012

I can't always write about everything happening, so here are some tidbits:

The TCA added 17 more members at the CPExpo in Orlando as the TCA closes in on 550 members - about 200 of whom have signed up to get certified as a CTP.

The US Secretary of Defense announced that Cyber-attacks could threaten US infrastructure. The DoD is working on a response.

Things VAR's Will Love About Selling Telecom

September 28, 2012

As the carriers look to the VAR space as the new sales channel, I would like to tell the VAR community a few things that they will love about selling telecom.

1) Install dates that are fluid. Porting numbers happen at the whim of the carriers you are porting from. The FOC date (when carriers install circuits) will move without notice or at the most a day's notice.

2) Your current partners - HP, IBM, Microsoft or Cisco - have never snaked a deal from you, but in telecom it will happen often.

More Agents Getting Certified

September 25, 2012

The Technology Channel Association has announced hitting two milestones: over 500 members and 200 members registered for the Certified Telecom Professional certification program. Those that have passed are listed on a special page. Why? Pride in being an Agent who takes this business seriously.
