GL Communications has announced an upgraded version of its PacketScan HD platform, capable of lossless packet capture at full duplex 400 Gbps (800 Gbps total).
The solution targets high-speed data center and core network environments, offering long-duration recording, web-based access, and hardware-level filtering.
With AI and data-intensive applications driving demand for high-bandwidth monitoring, the platform supports real-time and offline analysis of complex traffic streams.
GL Communications, a provider of telecom test and monitoring solutions, has introduced a high-speed packet capture and extraction system tailored for modern 400G Ethernet environments. Designed for both core network and data center deployments, the PacketScan HD platform delivers continuous, lossless packet capture at up to 800 Gbps (400G East + 400G West) using fiber tap inputs and high-speed NVMe SSD storage.
Vijay Kulkarni, CEO of GL Communications
“GL provides an all-in-one platform that captures high-speed Ethernet traffic without loss across multiple ports,” said Vijay Kulkarni, CEO of GL Communications. “PacketScan HD comes in both rack-mount and portable form factors, allowing network engineers to deploy it in a wide range of network and field environments.”
The platform is built to meet the evolving needs of network teams managing increasing volumes of data generated by AI workloads and high-bandwidth enterprise applications. Supporting sustained capture speeds of 6 TB per minute and storage capacity up to 240 TB, PacketScan™ HD enables engineers to visualize and extract meaningful insights from massive traffic streams.
Core Features and Applications
The PacketScan™ HD platform includes two key software modules:
FastRecorder captures Ethernet traffic in real time at up to 800 Gbps duplex, using a non-intrusive fiber tap. It provides detailed metrics including dropped packet counts, bandwidth usage, and error statistics across ports, helping identify anomalies and optimize performance.
PacketExtractor allows for offline analysis of stored traffic. Engineers can slice, filter, and export segments in PCAP/PCAPNG formats for use in broader analysis workflows. It provides metadata including frame counts and extraction rates, and integrates with GL’s PacketScan™ for deep-dive protocol-level analytics.
Additional features include:
Hardware-level filtering by MAC, VLAN, IP (IPv4/IPv6), tunneling, and transport protocols (TCP, UDP, SCTP)
PPS receiver integration for nanosecond-level timestamp accuracy
Linux-based web interface for multi-user remote access
Python and REST APIs for test automation and regression testing
Real-time port status monitoring with graphical visualizations of frame distribution, capture activity, and error trends
These capabilities are particularly valuable for data center operators, service providers, and equipment vendors conducting regression testing, forensic analysis, and service assurance across high-speed, multi-interface environments.
GL’s latest platform helps engineers meet the demands of current and emerging network use cases by providing continuous, high-speed visibility with no compromise on capture fidelity. Its open architecture and API-driven design also support custom automation and integration into broader test and monitoring environments.
