It seems based on numerous reports that the Apple tablet will be optimized for books and newspapers meaning we may see some very innovative screen technology when the device is released. Why? Well e-readers generally don’t use the same screens as laptops due to the battery life issues as well as long-term readability. And Apple is not one to generally follow the pack so we can expect a full-color, gesture-based reader which for all practical purposes will be an iPhone on steroids.

Perhaps most interesting is that if the technology is very good, it can potentially be applied to future iPhones and iPods meaning extended battery life for these devices and perhaps better readability.
