Many people I know working in the financial markets are programmers and I knew as these people lost their jobs this past year, they would be looking for jobs in IT and telecom.

I am now hearing and reading reports that students who once avoided IT are now looking seriously at engineering as a major. This is good news for our markets as it means being able to hire IT talent at more reasonable prices which means less outsourcing to other countries. It also means more programmers dedicated to building new products which has to be good news for buyers.

I bet a bunch of the ex-financial types will even take up blogging – which of course is among the noblest of professions.
