According to CNBC there is a problem with the Yahoo! merchant services and some merchants haven’t seen a single transaction go through since six this morning. Obviously this is not good news for Yahoo! or the companies depending on the service. In fact, one reason a merchant would work with Yahoo! is to avoid this sort of problem.
Obviously the fact that this is Cyber Monday could be part of the problem.
The solution is unclear as I would expect Yahoo! To be a great partner for merchants as they already receive more internet traffic than any other site. Still, this glitch shows web problems can happen regardless of how prepared you are and it also shows that there is a tremendous amount of shopping taking place online. In fact it is likely the volume of transactions which took Yahoo! Commerce out to begin with.
Although I hate to tie in bad news with a promotional message for TMCnet it seems worth mentioning the disaster preparedness channel on TMCnet as a place to go if you want to learn how to avoid such mishaps in your own organization.

May 21, 2009 at 10:45 amYou need to ask your service providers what they are planning to do, and when. They may not have staff available to get this done in a reasonable time, and so you may be waiting an unacceptable time to get there. Know what is preventing early resolution and you may know whether it is worth hanging in with them, because switching can still leave you in the same problem soon.
