Yahoo's SearchMonkey Released

If you can't beat Google head on, why not use some strategery? In this case, Yahoo! has unveiled SearchMonkey, a technology which allows websites to modify how their search results appear on Yahoo! search.

What can you do with this API? You could add a photo of your company next to its listing and more.

Unfortunately the API does not let you raise your search rank but perhaps if you make your listing look more enticing it will possibly generate more clicks than other sites.

So what has Yahoo! done here? They have combined user generated content as part of their search algorithms.

Will this help them? I would say it will help a bit as some companies will be enticed to experiment with the API and this alone will increase the company's search market share.

In the long run, we can expect Google to  do something similar which will effectively make this effort moot.

I don't think it will be that successful, more annoying than anything else. A whole page of completely different looking search results? I'll stick to Google thankssmile

Thanks for the information
