I walked by a kiosk in the Orlando airport and would have sworn it was a kiosk doing some sort of subliminal advertising for the Blue by American Express. The Kiosk which looked like a booth at our Internet Telephony Expos had computers in it and there were graphics everywhere that showed a card that looked like an American Express Blue credit card.
I went into the kiosk and said is this American Express? They told me it was Clear, a new initiative to get travelers through airport lines faster.
I read about this initiative and was pretty sure it was modeled after Israel where they use biometrics to identify you to reduce your wait time in airports. I was correct. It is a two factor ID system using a card and either iris recognition or a finger scan.
The cost is $79.95 and the TSA must approve you and continually approve you for that matter.
Apparently they only work in Orlando but hope to go to other airports soon.

June 21, 2008 at 3:19 pmI joined Clear Pass and must say that after using it several times at different airports I am MORE THAN THRILLED about the time that it has saved me virtually every time I used it! I found the attendants at the Clear Pass lanes were cheerful and helpful (probably because the work load is way light — there was NEVER anyone else on the clear pass line!) and helped me through security quickly. I felt like a rock star going to the head of the line EVERY TIME with the Clear Pass attendants carrying my bags and smiling all the way. One flight I had that was in a way overcrowded airport with regular line out the door, saved me at least an hour by using the Clear Pass. I recommend Clear Pass to anyone who has little patience to wait in a line that inches along and would rather sit at the gate relaxing. If you use my Referral Code: SCA20888 when you sign up for the Clear Pass – both you and I will get a FREE MONTH! Thanks and good luck to you!

June 30, 2008 at 12:26 pmYeah, I’m sure their service is excellent while they don’t have so many clients. Once the clients step up, I’m sure service (like carrying your bags etc.) will change… it always does. I suppose that’s normal, we can’t blame anyone for that. Regardless, though, it sure sounds like a fantastic idea and definitely the result of some clever thinking. Of course, we may say that it should have been an airport initiative but they have a ton of other things to worry about these days…
