Huawei Unveils HarmonyOS 6 with Intelligent Agent Framework

Key Takeaways:

  • Huawei’s HarmonyOS 6 developer beta introduces a new AI framework and upgraded assistant “XiaoYi” for real-time, context-aware interactions.
  • The update brings fast, low-latency performance, expanded cross-device functionality, and smart lifestyle features such as automated parking and fuel payments.
  • HarmonyOS 6 beta is now available on select flagship Huawei devices, with a full rollout expected later in the year.

Huawei has launched HarmonyOS 6 in developer beta, aiming to strengthen its push into context-aware, AI-driven user experiences across its device ecosystem. Central to this release is the HarmonyOS Multi-Agent Framework (HMAF), an architecture that supports the development of AI agents designed to interact across multiple platforms with real-time intelligence and awareness.

The framework powers a new version of Huawei’s AI assistant, XiaoYi, which now offers deeper utility than traditional voice bots. Through HMAF, XiaoYi can analyze on-screen content, assist with spreadsheets or documents, and provide developer support inside integrated environments. Its goal is to operate more like an autonomous digital collaborator than a simple task responder.

Huawei emphasized that HarmonyOS 6 significantly reduces latency—down to the millisecond level—enabling smoother interactions and faster task completion. One standout feature is “Touch and Share,” which lets users instantly transfer content between phones and PCs with a single tap, enabling seamless device-to-device transitions.

The update also introduces multi-user collaboration tools that allow shared control and content editing across HarmonyOS-powered devices. These features are part of Huawei’s broader ambition to create a truly “all-scenario” experience—one where smartphones, tablets, wearables, and smart home devices operate in coordination, guided by AI.

In daily life, HarmonyOS 6 brings forward several user-focused upgrades. Smart parking support now allows for automatic detection of parking zones and streamlined payments. Fuel purchases have also been simplified, with HarmonyOS integrating payment services at supported gas stations, letting users complete transactions through a single device tap.

Privacy remains a key focus. HarmonyOS 6 includes strengthened permission management and content isolation features that help users control data access more precisely—especially across connected devices.

The developer beta is initially available to users of high-end Huawei models, including the Mate 70 and 70 Pro, Mate 60 and 60 Pro, Mate X5, and the MatePad Pro tablets. This controlled release gives developers the opportunity to test applications and provide feedback ahead of the anticipated full commercial release, which is expected later this year alongside the launch of the Mate 80 series.

Huawei is positioning HarmonyOS 6 not just as an update to its mobile operating system, but as a redefinition of the software-hardware relationship. With Android no longer at the core of its mobile strategy, Huawei continues to build HarmonyOS as a fully independent platform capable of delivering next-generation services.

Beyond phones and tablets, the new OS lays groundwork for Huawei’s vision of a unified AI-powered ecosystem. Developers are being encouraged to use HarmonyOS 6’s APIs and toolkits to create cross-device experiences where smart assistants, interfaces, and functions adapt in real time—blurring the lines between individual apps and systemic intelligence.

This approach may help Huawei regain more global developer interest after years of limited access to Western app stores and infrastructure. The company appears focused on rebuilding a proprietary ecosystem where AI agents are native, tightly integrated, and capable of driving productivity, automation, and personalization across every connected screen or sensor.

With HarmonyOS 6, Huawei is not just delivering a mobile OS update—it is making a clear statement about its long-term strategy: build intelligence into the operating layer itself, and enable software that anticipates user needs across every device context.
