Why Was Amazon S3 Down?

If you are interested in learning about why Amazon had an outage in their cloud computing initiative S3 you can read about it on their corporate blog with some interesting commentary here.

Is there anything worth pointing out? Sure thing. Amazon calls this incident an "availability event" and I haven't had a chance to see if their is widespread ridicule of this term in the blogosphere but I suspect I am not alone in thinking this is a ridiculous term for what is commonly referred to as an outage.
