Rumors of Google or someone else acquiring Monster have generated a gain in Monster’s stock price of 80% since May of last year. Does Google need Monster? In my opinion they will benefit from such an acquisition as it allows the company to compete more effectively with Yahoo’s HotJobs’s service.
Google can grow a competitive site organically as well and I believe they could do well if they really pushed such a service. The acquisition would on the other hand immediately diversify Google’s revenue and take some pressure off the company by shaking the one-trick-pony reputation.
