ConnectWise CEO Encourages MSPs to Lead Industry 5.0 with AI and Security Integration

ConnectWise CEO Manny Rivelo is calling on Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to take a proactive role in ushering in Industry 5.0 by integrating AI and cybersecurity into their service offerings. In a recent discussion with CRN, Rivelo outlined his vision for MSPs to become pivotal players in a landscape where human expertise and AI technologies collaborate to drive innovation and resilience.

“AI is changing how we live, work, play and learn,” Rivelo stated. He emphasized the importance of helping small and medium-sized businesses harness AI effectively. Industry 5.0, as Rivelo describes, is characterized by the synergy between human intelligence and AI, leading to more adaptive and resilient business models.

We agree and found it interesting that these thoughts reinforce those of Kaseya – whose CEO, Fred Voccola told us back at MSP Expo that MSPs are even more trusted than doctors – with a doctor, you get a second opinion he exclaimed. Fred further went on to say there are expansion areas such as marketing automation that MSPs should consider.

Emphasizing Cybersecurity as a Core Offering

Rivelo underscores the necessity for MSPs to prioritize cybersecurity in their service portfolios. With cyber threats evolving rapidly, he asserts that even basic IT services must include embedded security measures. “Every MSP needs to think about security. Their evolution into becoming an MSSP should be front and center,” he said. He acknowledges that while not every MSP will become a full-fledged MSSP, offering at least rudimentary security services is essential to protect clients and reduce their attack surfaces.

Streamlining Operations Through Integration

To support MSPs in this transition, ConnectWise is focusing on integrating third-party technologies into its platform. By partnering with companies like Proofpoint and Microsoft, ConnectWise aims to create a cohesive ecosystem that reduces complexity and enhances efficiency. “We can’t solve everything alone,” Rivelo noted. “But if we integrate the right technologies into our platform tightly, we save clicks, we save steps.”

Addressing the Evolving Threat Landscape

Rivelo highlights the increasing sophistication of cyber threats and the need for MSPs to adapt accordingly. He points out that Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) often manage numerous security vendors and resources, a model that MSPs must emulate efficiently for SMBs. “The security market continues to grow because the adversary’s total addressable market is growing,” he explained. MSPs are encouraged to incorporate security measures even in basic offerings to prevent expanding their clients’ attack surfaces inadvertently.

Communicating Business Risk to Clients

When discussing security with clients, Rivelo advises MSPs to focus on business risk rather than technical jargon. For example, in industries like healthcare, compliance with regulations such as HIPAA is a significant concern. MSPs should articulate how their services mitigate these risks, allowing clients to concentrate on their core operations. “Talk to them about their business risk,” Rivelo said. “Translate what they do and say, ‘Here’s how I’m going to remove that risk so you can get back to doing what you do best.'”

Fostering Community and Peer Learning

ConnectWise is also investing in community-building initiatives to support MSPs. The company’s Evolve program, originally designed for peer groups, is expanding to include role-based sessions where professionals in similar positions can share challenges and solutions. “We’re a community of communities,” Rivelo remarked, highlighting the value of peer learning in navigating industry changes.

Looking Ahead

As ConnectWise prepares for its upcoming IT Nation Connect event, Rivelo hints at continued innovation and growth. The company is committed to enhancing its Asio platform, integrating third-party tools, and delivering value through each release. “We’re not stopping,” he affirmed. “There’s more growth and innovation ahead, and we want MSPs along for the ride.”
