Trying to get to CES 2014

I am trying to get to CES and so far it has been a challenge. My morning flight was met with a late ride to the airport followed by the longest lines at JFK I probably have ever seen. The storm yesterday which turned out to be much milder than predicted, cancelled lots of flights causing chaos here at the airport. My flight is delayed six hours and to make matters worse the JetBlue WiFi in the terminal doesn’t work. Thankfully I recently picked up a Verizon Jetpack MHS291L and it is amazing. The battery lasts up to 15 hours – I haven’t had a chance to test this claim out yet but even 10-12 hours would be a huge leap over older solutions. It is fast and has solid connectivity. In fact, regardless of where we were on a three-hour drive recently from Boston to Connecticut, it worked flawlessly. Even on Connecticut’s Merritt Parkway which generally has poor coverage.

Having said all that – just as I started writing this, Verizon service started to slow dramatically on the Jetpack and smartphone. Murphy’s Law. Let’s hope 4G works better this year in Vegas at CES than at past events.

On the bright side, I found a booth here at an airport restaurant with power. Things could be worse.

I am really looking forward to checking out many of the M2M, wearable and other new products at the show. Now let’s just hope my flight isn’t delayed further.
