Firefox Fixes

I have decided I am better off staying with IE and not switching to Firefox (news) for good. I was thinking of switching for security reasons. .I already have tabbed browser access with Avant Browser so security seems the real reason to switch. In my informal tests Firefox renders much faster than IE as well.

What made me write this entry is that there are e-mails circulating around my office with Firefox fixes. The whole point of switching was to avoid what the e-mails mention is a nasty security hole in the browser. The latest release is 1.04 by the way.

Give Opera a look if security is your top concern. It’s had at least one really embarrassing problem but has had impressively few of them. And they finally changed it so it supports gmail.
Everyone has security bugs. You have to do a complicated balancing act thinking about how often the bugs come up, how serious they are, how fast they get fixed, and how easy it is to install the fixes. That last is a clear lose for Firefox, which requires you to reinstall the entire program for every security fix. In every other area it’s ahead of IE.
For example, right now eEye is tracking a critical IE bug that allows web sites to take over your computer. The critical Firefox bug is already fixed.
