Personalized Menus?

It is important to choose words carefully. This is especially true when you are Microsoft and hundreds of millions of people use your software everyday. I have had a minor dilemma for months. I keep getting shortened menus when I click on Start and the Programs. I then have to click on the arrow at the bottom to expand the menu to get to the program I want.

I hate these shortened menus and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of them. I checked with MIS and they solved the problem. I had already tried searching the web and using the help that comes with Windows to no avail.

This is how you do it:

  • Right click on Start
  • Assuming Classic Start Menu is Checked
  • Click on Customize
  • Scroll to the bottom
  • Uncheck Personalized Menus
  • Click OK twice

You are done

I can’t understand who in Microsoft thinks that menus that are abbreviated for no apparent reason should be called personalized. Shouldn’t this be called shortened? Abbreviated? Condensed? Reduced? The funny thing is that I am using the MS thesaurus to come up with these words. I assume developers at Microsoft have access to this reference as well.

OK that was my venting for the morning. Back to work everyone 🙂

i hate them too and one of the first things i disable when i set up a new pc.
but that’s not the end of it. in ms office you disable them by going to
tools->customize->options and check “alawys show full menus”. and in IE it’s in a different place. who knows about other programs.
