UPS Status Delays

UPS really pioneered the concept of tracking packages effectively over the Internet. Yes Fedex is a leader as well but my point is not to determine who is first or better but instead ask why UPS seems to be much slower with its package delivery updates as of late. The last two orders I placed show this message:

Note:

UPS has received shipper’s billing information electronically. Billing information received does not indicate shipment pickup or drop-off. Please contact the shipper for more details.

OK that is fine. When I saw this message I naturally assumed the sender didn’t really send the package because I can’t actually see where the package is located in their network… This was the only available information on the package.

I saw this message on two separate packages ordered on the same day. I don’t recall ever seeing it before.

Interestingly I received one of my packages today and the system was updated with shipping information just before the package was at my door. There was a four-day gap between when the package was supposedly shipped and when the shipping info was updated.

I am not sure if this is just my bad luck or a bigger trend. I purchased products from two different companies and had the same problem with each order (the second package is hopefully going to arrive soon) so I certainly can’t blame this on the companies I purchased from.

Whenever I ship a package or have one shipped to me I don’t ever even look at the tracking information, I just look for the cheapest price. I run a small business and one of my friends told me about http://www.shippingsidekick.com and I’m glad he did. When I went to check it out the site showed me the prices of all four major shipping providers as well as the predicted transit times. So now I get the best deal and don’t have to worry about tracking it because I know when it will arrive.
