The IoT opportunity is quite immense and no part of the world will remain untouched. If the technology can be embedded in rhinoceros horns and trees in the Amazon, there is no place it won’t go.

Case in point, as we reported recently, BSNL and Aeris have joined forces to jointly tap the IoT market in India. Some of the areas of focus for this joint initiative include improving supply chain efficiency, enhancing customer experience, tracking and monitoring assets, improving logistics and empowering smart cities.

“As a leading Indian telecom player, BSNL has taken many steps to leverage technology to launch new services in line with the changing needs of our customers,” said Shri Anupam Shrivastava, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL. “IoT is an enabling technology that bears the potential to take India to a whole new level of development and our vision is to play a significant part in this endeavor. Our tie-up with Aeris Communications is our first step in this direction. In the days to come we will, through this partnership, translate the potential of IoT into tangible benefits on the ground.”

“Our tie-up with BSNL is a multi-dimensional one and I am confident that this relationship will transform the contours of the IoT landscape in the country,” said Dr. Rishi Bhatnagar, President, Aeris Communications India (pictured below). “Our partnership will ensure faster permeation of IoT across India and help businesses and PSUs gain remarkable advantages while enabling innovation at all levels through ubiquitous connectivity and IoT solutions tailor-made for the challenges that Indian companies face.”

In a briefing with Syed Zaeem the CTO and Founder (pictured below), Evan Whitelock (not pictured) and Kevin Petschow (pictured bottom), we learned a great deal about the direction of Aeris. The company is working to have a single IoT platform on numerous providers which further blends from cellular to WiFi as needed.

A simple SIM card with multiple carrier access is a big focus for the company as they deliver solutions in Automotive through end-to-end telematics (think OnStar alternative), asset tracking and more. Their NEO self-service solution allows US developers to get into IoT without needing to meet carrier minimums.

In short, Aeris is looking to simplify IoT not only for developers but for carriers looking to standardize on one platform and use it to support numerous markets.
