ITEXPO West 2008 Skype Keynote

Jonathon Christensen General Manager for Video and Audio at Skype gave a great keynote with a topic which was surprising — VoIP is dead. Wow. The point is video and other forms of communications — presence — etc, are becoming as important or more than voice. At ITEXPO West 2008 in Los Angeles today I learned Skype uses open source to terminate calls and they are also experimenting with stereo phone calls.

I have written about stereo VoIP for half a decade and finally, Skype will embrace it. It is worth pointing out Nortel too has embraced the conept which is why they picked up DiamondWare recently. Here are some photos of the standing room only keynote from the show.
