Photoluminescent Paint Markers Could Save Taxpayers Billions

Earlier today I discussed how governments can likely save billions of dollars by consolidating their overlapping digital library efforts. While on the topic of saving – this video below shows a new technology which allows roads to take advantage of photoluminescent paint markers which could eliminate the need for streetlights in many areas. I’d estimate the savings from this technology in the billions as well and there is an additional benefit related to not needing to replace light bulbs which burn out.

The downside? There would be an additional cost related reapplying the paint when a road is resurfaced – an event which takes place more frequently on roads damaged by snow plows, salt and sand.
