Over the weekend I tweeted the fact that Lady Gaga has surpassed President Obama in Twitter followers and separately the matter was reported on by TMC’s Juliana Kenny. But look out Presidents and Ladies alike, there is a new King in town and his name is Lebron – Lebron James – King Lebron James and he has just joined Twitter at @kingjames. At the current 30,000 followers the world-famous basketball player is a far cry from the 4.8 million followers of Lady Gaga or the 4.5 million of President Obama – still, James is a major sports celeb and we can expect his web cred to increase rapidly.
This is particularly the case in light of the fact that the athlete has a Web site which will launch soon. The photo below shows what the site looks like now.
It is clear the web is becoming more important than ever in helping to shape the image of celebrities, athletes and politicians and the question is will Lebron be as fierce a competitor in the game of Twitter followers as he is on the courts.
