I wasn’t aware of the Level 3 and Cogent peering dispute until I read this article. This seems to be a legitimate problem for those companies relying on the services of either of the above named organizations. Shrihari has a good point when he says, “One way to circumvent the problem (and improve performance in general) is to establish direct Layer 2 Ethernet connections such as Stealth’s Voice Peering Fabric.” Of course he is biased as he runs the VPF. I am hearing more and more interest in the VoIP Peering Summit at ITEXPO later this month. There seems to be a dearth of information on the topic we hope to fill. This is the second time we have hosted this summit and I expect this one to be better than the last.
