Just reading Tom’s blog where I learned that Microsoft and MCI are teaming to provide a SkypeOut-like service. As Tom points out, the irony is that Microsoft was a pioneer in VoIP with their NetMeeting program that was released shortly after VocalTec’s pioneering product. Amazingly, Microsoft is trying to claw its way back into a market they used to own. This is something the mainstream media doesn’t ever reference as VoIP was covered by only a few publications in the late nineties when all this took place.
