Catching up

With all my travel lately I have been neglecting my blogging. I figured I would get right back into the swing of things with some links to interesting articles.

You hear me discuss building communities all the time. Well Electronic Arts has decided to purchase Mythic a company devoted to massively multi-player games. The trend towards community building continues to grow across industries and boundaries.

In an effort to increase internet security levels, eBay (I am a shareholder btw) and others have begun to urge Congress for better privacy laws. The companies, which include eBay Inc., Eli Lilly & Co., Google Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., Microsoft Corp. and Procter & Gamble Co., argued for "a simplified, uniform but flexible legal framework" that supports "the free flow of information and commerce, while providing protection for consumers from increasing incidents of identify theft, fraud and intrusions of privacy."

The above stories are form the Wall Street Journal btw. This one is too. It focuses on the smaller telecom players such as Nortel and Motorola. Who thinks of these companies as smaller players? Anyway the article beats up Nortel a bit and says the company may be considering a partnership with the Siemens Communications enterprise spin-off.

This one is a must read: I never in my life thought a phone was going to cause me so many problems.

Finally here is an article on the state of telecom mergers and there seem to be increasing hints that Motorola and Nortel might team up.
