London Bombings

I would like to send my condolences to the families who lost loved ones in today’s bombing attacks in the UK. I wish those that were injured a safe and speedy recovery. I hope those that were responsible are found quickly and brought to justice.

Here is a log from multiple reporters detailing the aftermath of the bombings.

In case you missed the details, London was struck by a series of 6-9 separate bombs seemingly aimed at disrupting the city’s transportation system. Buses and subways were primarily targeted.

From the NYTIMES:

Sir Ian Blair, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, told reporters at about 11:20 a.m. that "events which may be explosions" had taken place at or around the subway stations at Edgware Road, King’s Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate East and Moorgate. He refused to speculate on the cause, but said "we are concerned that this is a coordinated attack."

Sir Ian said that since the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States, London‘s emergency services had been preparing for such an incident and that "the situation is being controlled." He warned people to "stay where you are" and not to attempt to travel around London – in addition to the subway closures, much of the bus system was also closed – and not to call the police or ambulance services unless there was a life-threatening emergency.

CNN World has a minute by minute timeline on the bombings.

Public transportation services in London have ceased for the moment and many people were forced to walk as the bombings took place at the tail end of the morning rush hour. Prime Minister Tony Blair is most recently reported to be returning t London briefly and expects to be back at the G8 Summit later in the day.
