The new UI introduces Liquid Glass, a translucent material that reflects and refracts surroundings, creating a more dynamic experience across app icons, widgets, and controls. The Lock Screen and Home Screen adapt to users’ images and contexts, while system apps like Photos, Safari, Music, and Camera receive layout updates that emphasize content over chrome.
Apple Intelligence: Real-Time AI, On-Device
iOS 26 further integrates Apple Intelligence, expanding features like Live Translation (text and voice), visual intelligence for on-screen context actions, and integration with services like Google, Etsy, and ChatGPT. The platform also brings auto-summarization to email and tracking updates, detects contextual events on-screen, and enables smarter calendar suggestions.
Tools like Image Playground and Genmoji allow users to generate custom emojis or background art with a few prompts, while developers gain access to on-device foundation models through a new API layer.
Importantly, Apple Intelligence runs on supported devices with AI inference handled locally — enabling privacy-first personalization without cloud reliance.
Communication: Smarter, Less Interruptive
The Phone app introduces Call Screening, Live Voicemail integration, and Hold Assist — alerting users when a call center rep finally picks up. Messages gains support for screening unknown senders, generating polls, applying custom chat backgrounds, and suggesting Apple Cash transfers during group chats.
CarPlay, Music, Maps, and Wallet Get Smarter
CarPlay receives a refreshed UI with compact call notifications, pinned conversations in Messages, and widget support. Apple Music adds features like lyric translation and AutoMix DJ transitions. Maps introduces Visited Places, a privacy-protected way to view a location history using on-device intelligence.
Apple Wallet adds real-time boarding pass updates, installment payment options for in-store purchases, and deeper integration with Maps and Find My for travelers.

A new Apple Games app brings together user-owned games, Apple Arcade content, and live events into one personalized hub. iOS 26 also adds voice-isolated, studio-grade audio recording for AirPods and enables users to use AirPods as a remote trigger for photo and video capture.
Availability
iOS 26 is available now for developers, with a public beta coming next month. Official release is scheduled for fall 2025, with Apple Intelligence features available on select devices (including iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, and M-series iPads and Macs).
