Mio 136 GPS

Mio just introduced the Mio 136 GPS navigation system. This device is not only a GPS device but is also a MP3 player. The device comes with a million points of interest, and categories of restaurants, gasoline stations, lodging, ATM’s and banks, airports, and more. In categories, users can filter by name or type.

For example, if you’re in a "Mexican" mood for food, simply select Mexican as a food category, and the Mio136 offers up restaurants in that category and lists them from nearest to farthest from your current location. Pick one, and off you go with alerts for directions verbally and visually along the way in 2D, 3D and birdseye views and both night or day vision. You can also select Chevron’s or Exxon’s, and as you drive, the Mio136 points these out! Same for hotels and other destinations.

The device turns on instantly and is powered by an Intel 300Mhz CPU which provides both visual and verbal directions to the user’s destination with over a million points of interest (POI) using an extra sensitive GPS receiver and maps stored on the included 256 MB SD/MMC storage card. Simply selecting the user’s preprogrammed destinations, such as the office, home or customer, the user can get directions from any location to that destination in a simple click.

The Mio136 comes complete with everything needed to mount in an automobile: AC charger, 12 Volt charger, USB cables, 256 MB SD/MMC card, SD/MMC card reader, modern protective case, head phones, mounting bracket and arm. The MSRP for the standard Mio136 is $499. In the United States and Canada, the Mio136 is available through partnerships found on: http://www.miogps.com/where2buy.htm.

You might want to check out http://www.gpspassion.com/ for some great info on various options. I use a bluetooth GPS receiver with my laptop and/or PDA to avoid having yet another device to have to take with me. So far I am very happy with the choice.
