Windstream Upgrades OfficeSuite UC, Adds SD-WAN Integration, Scale and More

Windstream Enterprise announced a major upgrade to the OfficeSuite UC platform, its award-winning UCaaS solution, to expand support to companies with up to 20,000 users. This is an increase from 2,500 and there is no extra cost for this functionality.

To learn more, we had an exclusive interview with the Windstream team.

“OfficeSuite UC has proven to be a game-changer for smaller enterprises who are realizing the advantages of a cloud-based communications system,” said Austin Herrington, vice president of product management at Windstream Enterprise. “With this major enhancement, we’ve scaled this award-winning solution so that much larger businesses also can cost-effectively simplify administration and create a uniform user experience.”

You may recall this product came to Windstream via the Broadview acquisition in 2017.

In addition, Windstream Enterprise provides SD-WAN Concierge, Cloud Connect and WiFi services. It also offers a range of complementary network and communications solutions including Managed Network Security, Wavelength Services with Optical Encryption, Switched Ethernet and Fixed Wireless.

Scott Yelton said the company had over two-hundred thousand users in the less than one-thousand user range. Customers needed to scale, have better management, integrate, have service quality and control and compliance where necessary he told us.

Another interesting feature of the platform is the ability to add in different backgrounds like a virtual green screen. See the graphic at the top with the mountain background and this one above with a bridge.

“We have a blade server architecture, it can spin up new instances and utilize geographic and high-availability for customers,” he exclaimed. “Admins and sub-admins are a new feature.”

He went on to explain they looked at UCaaS from a consumer perspective… Asking, how do people manage their 401Ks and IRAs? This reasoning led to being able to nickname accounts to make it easier to recognize and manage them.

The biggest competitive threat they see comes from Verizon he responded to a query we posed about the competition.

Keith Dematteo explained they are bringing their customers from other platforms to OfficeSuite as well.

Behind the scenes, the company has AI looking for where users get stuck, in order to improve the interface over time.

They emphasized they will integrate into other collaboration platforms – as well as tying in SD-WAN.
