“Data protection, file sync and share software developer eFolder and disaster recovery-as-a-service developer Axcient merged in July 2017 under the Axcient name to bring enterprise capabilities to the small and mid-market,” said Jeff Cummings (pictured), company CRO in an exclusive, live, in-person interview.

They shifted to a channel-only strategy after the purchase and David Bennett, CRO of Webroot is the new CEO as reported by Arti Loftus on TMCnet sister-site, MSP Today. In addition, Gina Thompson is the New VP of Worldwide Channels and Distribution as reported on TMCnet sister site IoT Evolution. She will focus on distribution and expanding the channel. She worked at Ingram Micro for 18 years meaning she certainly has the right experience.

As a result, the company has kickstarted their distribution by partnering with large players in the market. Pax8 is one example – they provide different “STAX” to MSPs who can resell them in various bundles as well as D&H.

The company has over three-thousand partners, 400,000 endpoints, 15 verticals, 40 patents and an A security rating.

All their technology is their own and they see the following growth drivers:

  • Cloud
  • Security
  • Compliance

One major goal of the company is to protect everything an organization does – from O365 to VMware.

The company’s Replibit and BRC provide proven backup and recovery at a low TCO.

Replibit is a cost-effective MSP solution for on-premise recovery point objective.

BRC focuses on cloud recovery – including virtual office, automated run-books and SLA-based alerts.

Anchor enables MSPs to cloud-enable clients’ file services.

Fusion provides DRaaS by replicating large VMware environments for enterprises needing rapid response to outages.

Axcient Cloud is a secure, reliable solution for eliminating application downtime and data loss.

The company’s suite of solutions helps companies deal with compliance as well as e-discovery – enabling a search of archived emails as opposed to working with live data. This information can then be sent to legal. Compliance too is covered. So is Ransomware rollback as part of disaster recovery. The system backs up continuously, making restores a lot easier to retrieve.

“We provide enterprise protection to the SMB,” exclaimed Jeff.

As opposed to a solution from a company like Datto – the MSP can bring their own device and leverage their cloud via a purchase or lease. In addition, their solution is chain-free, using a pointer-based solution which eliminates backup-chain dependency. This allows less storage – no need to double the data which is stored or overprovision.

“Our industry has lots of data bloat. We reduce it and let you use what you need,” exclaimed Jeff. “We provide a lower cost for partners and increased margins.”

Another important differentiator is the company’s commitment to security and compliance. MSP providers are natural targets due to the vast amounts of information and credentials they have access to.

As a result, the company has focused here – specifically:

  • Network Security
  • DNS Health
  • Patching Cadence
  • Endpoint Security
  • IP Reputation
  • Application Security
  • CUBIT: This is a score which measures security best-practices.
  • Hacker Chatter
  • Information Leakage
  • Social Engineering

Forrester ranked the company on these metrics and gave them a total score of 93. Infrascale came in second at 85. Axcient really distinguished itself in Network Security, Patching Cadence, Endpoint and Application Security.

In the future we can expect them to provide better partner enablement via a partner portal with built-in marketing.
